New snapshot in this week marathon at Mojang. The Minecraft 1.13 snapshot 18w10d corrects the biggest bugs of the new water management system introduced yesterday, and adds a much-needed feature of the players: the coral fields.

The Coral Fields

The coral that was added in the 18w09a snapshot quickly became popular with the enthusiastic community doing these new colorful underwater decorations. But until now the coral was only available in creative mode, no biome generating this block naturally.

From now on we will be able to admire the corals in the form of magnificent fields: The coral fields cover the bottom of the hot ocean biomes, that is to say that coral fields are extremely rare. Recall also that the temperature of the oceanic biomes is never in any case correlated with the temperature of the terrestrial biomes, it is therefore quite possible that a warm biome is on the edge of a snowy full, or that a biome frozen ocean appears in the heart of a hot sand desert.

ProfMobius (who implemented this feature) explains that the coral density will not be uniform in the biome: the closer you get to the edges of the biome the less the density of the coral structures is important, allowing smoother transitions between biomes
But hot ocean biomes are so rare, and mostly so small, that it will be rare to distinguish these density variations.

Changes in Snapshot 18w10d

Some modifications have been made to the physics of water.

  • The solid face of the blocks no longer lets the water flow.
  • New blocks can have water in them.
    • Traps: Let the water run below only if they are open.
    • Ladders: Placed under water, the player climbs more quickly.

      • The water in the above blocks is now managed by “waterlogged” as a status and no longer as a tag.
      • Algae, aquatic weeds and bubble columns now have a source of water directly, even placed via a control.
