[Tip] Overlay and complete your resource packs

The work of the pack makers is long and precise. Each texture of each block, item, must be retouched. This is done with software of 3D or 2D. It is not uncommon to find unfinished textures in resource packs still in design that have elements that inspire you. Previously, you had to complete incomplete resource packs by editing the files, which caused many bugs. To overcome this problem it is possible for some updates to overlay the textures, such as layers.

It is also possible for the most curious to mix textures by going directly to replace images of a resource pack with those of another.

Use the layer system

When you want to place a background texture, it is essential that your packs share some features, in order to maintain consistency – the originals of which will happen.
The two resource packs must have in common:

  • their resolution (16 × 16, 32 × 32 … 512 × 512)
  • their universe (cartoon, medieval, cyberpunk, realistic etc.)

Below we will take as an example the two resource packs LIIE’s and PureBDCraft. They have the distinction of having an identical resolution, as well as a common style that is the cartoon. It is therefore coherent to complete the young LIIE’s, still still in the design phase, with the venerable PureBDCraft.

  1. The highest displayed resource pack is the “dominant”, the one whose textures will all be displayed.
  2. Then comes the secondary which will complete only the textures not modified by the “dominant”.
  3. Finally comes the original textures of Minecraft that secure the display, to avoid unknown blocks.

To assign a position to the packs, you have arrows displayed on the thumbnail of each texture. With these marks, you can easily play with layers.

In case of problems, doubt, with a combination, you can test your combination with the debug mode. To access it, go to the Minecraft home menu:

  1. Click on “Solo”
  2. Click on “Create a new world”
  3. Click on “More options …”
  4. Click 5 times, with the shift key down on “World Type”
  5. Click on “Create a new world”

Put your hands in the grease
If it’s an accurate texture of a resource pack that you love and want to add to your own custom pack, then you can go through a very simple and effective technique. When you download a package, it is in the form of a .zip = compressed file. You can open this type of file with software like Winrar.
Once your custom package on one side and the resource packs containing the desired textures on the other, follow this path in the two .zip tree: assets> minecraft> textures. You will find many files containing images in .png format that you can move from one pack to another by drag and drop.

Faites bien attention à un point : les fichiers .png doivent poster le même nom pour être interchangés. Aussi, il ne doit pas y avoir deux images du même nom dans le même dossier.
